Obernkarbi feat. The Boiler Quartet is a headphone concert performance based on a boiling process stretching to approximately 10 mins.

The Boiler Quartet consist of 4 boiler kettles carefully selected for their resonant character and the degree of sediment limestone that gives a characteristic “singing” when brought to life due to excessive heat from the cooking plates they are placed upon. This singing develops from a subtle ambient crackling slowly going over to a harsh noise landscape that continues into a more broad-frequency noisewall and ends with a slow fadeout as the boiling has completed and the cooking plates are turned off.

As an acoustic, surgical monitoring experience, audience are invited to listen to the intimate boiling process in headphones. After the concert has ended, the hot water is used to serve a cup of tea for the audience to enjoy and contemplate on their experience together.
